Transitional words and phrases are used to become two sentences in one sentence. They help the reader to progress from one idea to the next idea to build coherent relationshipps between the text. Some examples of transitional words:

Words that show conclusion:

Words that repeat information:

Words that show comparison:

Words that show contrast or differences:

Words that show a time relationship:

Words that limit or prepare for an example:

Words that show cause:

Words that show effect/result:

Words that assert obvious truth:
